Prayer Request- MALARIA

October begins Malaria season in Malawi. It will only get worse until the season ends in March. Malaria kills someone in Africa every 30 seconds. Malaria is the most frequent cause of morbidity and mortality in Malawian children under five years of age, and is the cause of over 40% of deaths in children under two. Children under five suffer more than 9 malaria episodes per year, while adults suffer over 6 such episodes.

Savannah-Hope's Nanny has Malaria. Please pray for a quick and compete recovery for her. Please pray that she will get access to the life saving medication. Without the medication, she will die within 5 days. Please pray that God will provide someone to care for Savannah-Hope until Violet is able to return to Good Samaritan. Please also pray for protection from Malaria for Savannah-Hope.

No, Malaria is not contagious.

You can only catch it if you are bit by a mosquito that carries the parasites. The parasite invades the red blood cells in your body. You must have the anti-malaria medication within 5 days or you will die. Most can't afford the medication. Many die even with the medication, especially if they have HIV/AIDS.

There are more than one type of malaria parasite. Plasmodium falciparum is the Malawian Malaria Parasite and also the most lethal.

The best way to prevent it is being under a mosquito net at bedtime. The mosquitos come out after dark.

Savannah-Hope is not able to take the anti-malaria medication to prevent Malaria because, you can still catch it on the medication, just a milder case. But the problem is that it if you do catch it while on the anti-malaria medication it wont be detected in your blood. In adults we can tell if they have Malaria even if it doesn't show on the blood test, because they can tell us their symptoms, which are headache and vomitting. With an infant, it is hard to tell because they spit up and they can't tell you if they have a headache.

So basically we have to keep her under a net at night...which we do...and pray...which we do. KEEP PRAYING for God to place a hedge of protection around this little girl!!!!!
