The Miracle we call Savannah-Hope

I just received these new photos of our sweet miracle from Missionary Jim Jorgenson who works with Good Samaritan Children's Home. These pictures were taken four days after Savannah-Hope was rescued from her village. She was four months and three days of age and weighing 4 and a half pounds. Chrissie says that Savannah was already looking stronger and healthier here, than when they received her four days before. Hard to believe, she looks so fragile.

I am the proud mommy of three ex-preemies who all entered the world at this exact same size, but none of them thankfully were this small at four months. I am brought to tears with thanksgiving for what God has done for Savannah-Hope and our family. I can't wait to take her in my arms and hold her forever.

Here is Savannah-Hope with Missionary Brother Jim

Look at her back! Aw, my sweet angel. She is holding Aunt Chrissie's finger.

You can see her ribs and notice the wrinkling in her elbows and arm pits, she had absolutely no fat or muscle tone.

These are the first pictures I have seen of her in the cloth diaper without the diaper cover. The cloth diapers they use in Malawi resemble more of a square towel. It is not prefolded. Chrissie became an origami expert trying new ways to fold the diaper in order to maximize the coverage in the "high traffic zones". The pink "Y" shaped thing you see on the diaper is called a Snappi. It is a rubber diaper fastener. It has little plastic teeth that grab on to the diaper and hold it all together. I am told that they are safer and more hygienic then diaper pins.

She is such a miracle! You can see in the pictures where Bro Jim is holding her, she looks so uncomfortable. It caused her pain for us to hold her especially without her clothes on. She was just skin and bones. Praise the Lord she is thriving now! Just wait till she gets home....
